Yesterday evening it took 3.5 hours for my husband and I to travel from the downtown area to Rio Rancho. Thankfully, Joe has experience driving in snowy and icy weather, so he was able to get us home safely. I am so thankful for him.
I am also thankful for all of the individuals that braved the cold to help others: the woman walking around with kitty litter throwing it under peoples tires, the young men getting out of their vehicle to push the car stuck in front of them, people with 4x4 trucks offering to tow those stuck, and the gentleman who offered a gentle push from behind. Those are just the examples seen on a tiny stretch of road between Albuquerque and Rio Rancho - there are sure to be countless others that aided in getting people home. That type of kindness may exist everywhere, but it was nice to have the reminder of how incredible people can be when they work together for the greater good. If you're able to, please stay home, but if you are unable to do so, be safe and try to help if the opportunity presents itself.
